What is Hemp Extract Oil?

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD or Cannabidiol is an active ingredient in marijuana. While THC or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is the most commonly known element, CBD is the second. Marijuana has more than 400 active substances, and it has 60 various cannabinoid molecules. Unlike THC, cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive extract.

How Does Cannabidiol Interact with Your Body?

CBD oil interacts with your body by creating a bridge between the body and the mind through endocannabinoid system (ECS). Endocannabinoid system regulates our body's functionalities through a network of receptors such as appetite, memory, pain sensitivity, sleep, mood, and immune system. The ECS has three components which are cannabinoid receptors, endocannabinoids, and metabolic enzymes.

Cannabinoid Receptors

The cannabinoid receptors are the "listeners." They sit on the surface of the cell, and they observe the conditions outside. When information inside the cell changes, they transmit the information. Additionally, they kick-start the appropriate cellular response. The two main receptors are CB1 and CB2. The CB1 receptors are by far the most abundant. When a person is intoxicated from THC, they have a euphoric "high" feeling. Outside of the nervous system is where you will find CB2. Common locations for this receptor include the immune system.

Endocannabinoid Molecules

Endocannabinoid molecules bind to the cannabinoid receptors, and they are produced by the cells in the body. Two different variations of these molecules can be found: anandamide and 2-AG. Within the cell's membranes, fat-like molecules make the endocannabinoids. They are made "on-demand." Some biological molecules are packaged and stored for later, but the body only makes the exact amount of endocannabinoids it needs.

Metabolic Enzymes

The last piece of the triad is the metabolic enzymes. Once the endocannabinoids are used, these molecules destroy them. The two largest enzymes are FAAH and MAGL. Unlike hormones or classical neurotransmitters, the metabolic enzymes distinguish endocannabinoids, and they make sure they are used when needed.

These neurons communicate by listening to each other. If one neuron begins to over send too many signals, the other neuron that is listening will make endocannabinoids. The endocannabinoids will go to the neuron that's being loud (overactive) and bind it to the CB1 Receptors. They send a signal to "quiet" them down. Thus, cannabinoid helps to maintain homeostasis within the body. When an area is in pain, it affects the neurons that begin to send the numerous signals. The other neurons rush in to quiet them down, which relieves the pain.

Proven Health Benefits Of CBD

According to British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology that was published in 2013, studies that shown CBD to possess the following properties: anxiety, antipsychotic, reduces nausea, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, and suppresses seizures.

  • Antiemetic (reduces nausea and vomiting)
  • Anticonvulsant (suppresses seizure activity)
  • Antipsychotic (combats psychosis disorders)
  • Anti-oxidant (neurodegenerative disorders)
  • Anti-tumoral/anti-cancer (inhibits cancer cell growth)
  • Anxiolytic/Anti-depressant (relives anxiety)
  • Anti-inflammatory (fights inflammatory disorders and relieve pain)

CBD doesn't have any of the debilitating issues that comes with regular marijuana. The CBD-rich strains are perfect for the older user who is not comfortable with the feeling of being "high" that comes from the properties of THC. Calming the endocannabinoid system may be enough to bring relief to those experience from a wide variety of ailments.
